Clutch failure and resulting carnage

All I did was start the car, and I heard the bang. I got halfway to the Oaks meet when I saw the smoke and pulled over. This is the first thing I saw when I opened the hood.

These are the parts I found just lying under the hood.

So I pulled the transmission, and the rest speaks for itself.

Yeah, I know it sounds bad, but I honestly thought the bang was my a/c compressor clutch. That thing actually bangs when it engages sometimes, usually only when it's very hot, which it was that day. So I truly thought nothing of it.
Believe it or not, it drove and shifted perfectly fine, and the clutch takeup felt normal. However, there is a trail of gear oil along most of Pawlings Rd. which I have to see everyday when I go to work.
And it is (was) a 2600 lb pressure plate. I contacted ACT and they are going to warranty the clutch and flywheel. They said they might help me out with the trans repair, but I haven't heard back about that yet.

i would hope they help you out with the trans! Pressure plate fingers aren't supposed to snap off like that. All of the damage to your trans housing/case is probably due to that one little finger breaking off. It probably got wedged somewhere which explains why you could drive it until it must have moved again and just blasted right thru the case. that is crazy. def never seen that before. :D

That's different. That's the extreme pressure plate too. The redesigned supposed to be tougher plate. How many miles were on that setup?
