WTF .. Running Rich As HECK..

1987 Chrysler Conquest TSi 2.6L turbo. New motor, etc., etc. Current issue is that it's running incredibly rich. It's blowing near pure fuel out of the tailpipe.. lots of it at that. I fouled one set of plugs already. Put a new set in, ran very mildly better, but still pouring fuel out. When moving it's pretty much okay, except for some hesitation. When in the lower gears and at idle it seems to be running on 2, 3 and 4 cylinders at times. All 4 plug wires are good. Distributor is firing. Timing is good.

Any idea's? Thanks!

lol, i just had an amusing image of gasoline pouring out of a tailpipe. New motor? thats weird. Fuel system (pressure regulator?) maybe, idk at all. GL though. and take a vid of that fuel blowing out the exhaust. :D

Don't run it too much, you can wash the cylinder walls of oil, and kill the motor.
What type of fuel injection is on that, multi port or throttle body?
Were all the plugs fouled, or just one?
I'd check the fuel pressure first.

So it is just rich at idle? I would guess either the Maf or bad injectors. I am not too familiar with Conquests, but if it were a DSM they would be the first two things I would check.

It's a dual injector setup at the throttle body. Vacuum controlled... This is making me think a vacuum leak is causing the issue. All 4 plugs were fouled and smelled like old gas.. turpentine-ish. There is new 93 in there, but maybe a little residual 93 from a year ago.

It's rich at idle and startup. It's rich for the first maybe 1-2 mins of driving, then no more fuel out the tailpipe and it starts to run a little better, but still not well.

Still leaning towards vacuum.

If you had a leak at idle wouldn't it be running lean?

Wanted to add: The car has an aftermarket BOV with only a small vacuum line running from it on the end. Some [Honda turbo] friends are telling me that this is incorrect, as it needs to recycle air from past the MAF with a larger tube? Something to that regard...

i agrea with 1_2befast, sounds like a leaking injector. did you have them cleaned when you did the rebuild? the bov wouldnt play any parts with this it only releases when the tb shuts. what are you running for fuel pressure? are you running a stock ecu?

Hmm, injectors were not cleaned from what I am aware of. Supposedly this is supposed to be a sealed system like this:

Which it's not.. mine looks like this (pardon the crappy camera phone shot at night):

Stock ECU and no idea on the fuel pressure, but it's supposed to be at stock.

well a easy way to find a vac leak is with starting fluid or brake cleaner.. start the car and spray around the intake, vacume lines, the injectors.. if the car stumbles then there a leak but i would send the injectors out and have them cleaned its cheap and something i like to do with older setups. sometimes they lockup from sitting open during rebuilds.

What you just have shown is a recirculated setup, which your right. Your's is not. I dont know much about these, but VW's and some subie's prefer recirc. Not too sure about these
