buying a house

so yea i just put in a bid for 80k ...a bit of a fixer upper in norristown.

got 1 car garage, its a ranch with basement, 3 bedroom 2 bath, really decent neighborhood. not usual norristown.

needs new breaker box and a little other electrical work, recoat the roof in some areas, some new carpet and some new ceiling... otherwise its sweet. oh and its got a small but private backyard

Good luck with it all. I am looking at trying to buy a house late next year hopefully if everything works out for me. It's hard to believe that I'm in that stage haha.

good luck! I hope you realize how much work you're in store for

I bought my house a year ago and the work is ENDLESS and this place wasn't a total fixer upper.

Definitely worth it though! Much more rewarding than building a car.

thanks for the good luck. im pretty sure its around 1000 feet.

i was pre approved for an 80k mortgage... but i wont even need that much. if i get this house for 80, ill be putting down 16k upfront so ill only have to borrow 64k which will make my monthly payment nice and low. i plan to live here, not rent. the only reason im all of a sudden buying a house is because my parents are moving and dont have enough room for me at their new house. so i figured buy > rent. and ofcourse the 8k tax break makes the deal sweeter. that easily covers closing costs and then some.

im gonna fix it to pass u and o safety inspection (bang out all of the electrical work in a couple weeks) then move in and fix up the rest as i go along! i hope they take my offer.. but i have a feeling they wont lol ...we will see.

congrats on the upgrade from 'rents to owning a house. i hope it all works out for you. i would kill to be in the buying position.

as a close friend or relative though, i'd probably buy you a mossberg 500 tactical as a housewarming gift. good luck with norristown. lol. hope it works out better than most i've talked to. i know you say it's a really decent part of norristown, but seriously... they have legs... and cars.
