sharing between vista and work XP

****... i've got 50 gigs of music on my work laptop that i'm trying to get on my vista desktop. the ****ty part... my computers won't find each other on the network...

i'm not sure if this is due to issue with the work laptop and its security crap, or just me not setting something up correctly.

any ideas?

i've got the folder set as shared by all on the network, but the vista desktop isn't seeing anything... hell, its not even seeing the laptop on the network

Are you on the same network i.e. going into your network places and setting the same group?

It could be a hell of alot of things. Could be the firewall on either or both machines. Area they in a domain or workgroup? If workgroup are they in the same workgroup? Have you tried typing \\computername in the run box?

A portable hard drive will take a lot of the headache out of this problem.

Yeah it's pretty quick depending on connection speed but i'm sure for 50 gig you'll have to let it run a while. kind of childish but it's a simple solution.
