thats cool, do you mind sharing your technique for shooting it and more importantly your technique for tuning it into a video? i was never sure how to do that in any type of automated way.

It's really pretty easy, easier than I thought it would be

For the exposure part
I take a test shot, get the exposure right, set the camera to manual and set the timer (I do 5-10 second intervals)
If you shoot in any priority mode or auto it won't come out good
Your exposure will be all different and the movie will look really choppy (hard to explain)

I use my Macbook Pro with my camera USB'd to it
I use EOS Utility for the timer and it automatically downloads the pictures into Digital Photo Professional on my comp.

After I am done shooting I select all, open iMove, drag and drop all the pics into iMoive
Then you click the Media tab ---> Photos ----> Show photo settings
I set the time it displays each pic for 0.03 seconds (default time is 5 seconds)

Compress to .MOV and done

Make sense?
Maybe a little?

Would you be able to do it with Adobe Image Ready and save it as a *.gif? Or would the final product be too choppy....

ProShow Producer. I use it to make slideshows for weddings and such. It's a really nice program for that kind of stuff.

it doesn't give you much room to do what you want, WMM is more of a cookie cutter program.

what about using an NLE like sony vegas? You could just drop the pictures in, setup any transitions or whatever, then render it as whatever movie file you want.

That would probably work too, the same as Avid, Premiere or Final Cut. Basically any video production software can do this. It's just making a slideshow with a very short slide duration.
