Specific problem for the A6 , I'm not sure.
But it wouldn't be the first time I've heard of a faulty fan relay switch for an Audi. I would start there and then go down the line, ie. no current, bad fan motor, etc. Good luck.

the fans not coming on is def why its overheating..put power and ground to the fan see if it comes on..and see if the horn relay is the same for the fans ., if so switch them. also put your a/c on and see if just one fan comes on...do you have a multimeter?.
