When was your first time...

So tonight was first time to have a tire blow out on me. I've been driving for about 15yrs now and never had a tire go flat on me while driving let alone go from fully inflated to flat in seconds.
So just paid the tolls at the Walt Whitman bridge and took the exit for I95 south. Made it down to the traffic light with no problem. As I pull away and start to merge I hear the noise of something stuck in the tire. And then boom. There went my left rear tire. Thought the person behind was going to drive into the car next to them. So I pull over on what's left of the shoulder of I95 before you come up to the stadiums, were there is no shoulder. Yay me I get to change a driver side tire on I95. Oh that's right my forester is lowered 4in. and I never bothered to check if my jack would fit. It would of if it wasn't for the tire being flat. Luckily for me a little leaning and lifting I was able to use my foot to get the jack into place and changed out my tire with my original spare. Totally not the same size rim and tire. Spare was pretty much flat as well, but enough to get me a few miles home to inflate it Changing a tire on any busy road sucks. So that's my first time with a blow out.

Over the winter I was driving down the road and slammed a pothole in my firebird. It drove fine until I stopped the car at my friends house. I got out and just heard it loosing air and drop to the ground. Luckily my rim bent (brand new $220 tires were just put on two days before) and I got a new rim for $50 at a u pull it.

First & only "Blowout" was in my lifted 91 Jeep Wrangler.

Off road trip with a friend in Blackwood Nj.

Driving through a muddy track & BOOM.... a submerged piece of metal decimated the drivers front. A brand new 33x15.50-15 Super Swamper SX.
I was not amused.

Then, when I went to change it, we find out that the full size spare had been slashed at some point.

We limp it to the closest service station to see if either tire could be fixed. NOPE.

The solution..... there was a JUNK Hoosier racing slick in the trash pile. ZERO TREAD, but 15". The tech mounted it & had to put a DOUBLE plug PLUS a can of fix-a-flat in it JUST to get it to hold air.

It looked like hella flush stretched rubber band ;)

Coming home over the Walt Whitman someone cut me off from the right hand lane & I had to hit the brakes pretty hard. It damn near ripped the wheel outa my hands from the HUGE difference in rolling diameter. We almost hit the barrier.

I had to buy TWO new tires & had a REALLY pissed off tech when he had to pull the bald slick full of fix-a-flat off & the slashed spare.... PLUS m&b two 33" mud tires.

That was my first time. ;)

My curse with vehicles has always been around. The Jeep curse eventually turned into the Baja curse.

Mine was coming home from work on RT 22 East, just past the 191 Bethlehem exit. I felt a wobble like my lug nuts suddenly worked loose. I worked my way over to the shoulder and hit the brakes to slow down. Smoke was coming out from the front passenger's side of my car where the tire is and the car felt funny when I was on the brakes slowing down. I looked in my rear view mirror before getting out of the car and saw the smoking tread of my tire rolling down the shoulder behind my car. A low mileage 205/45-15 Nitto NT-555R drag radial suffered tread separation as I was doing about 65 MPH down the highway. The sidewalls were still attached to the rim. The tire had 35 PSI in it when I checked the tire pressure that morning.

Nitto said there were no issues with that tire, but they stopped making that tire in 205/45-15 several months before that incident and no Nitto tire dealers could get the NT-555R in that size. Its really odd for a tire with ~1000 miles on it and a few 1/4 mile passes to have a failure that catastrophic. Somewhere I have pictures of it. If I find them, I'll put them up.

A few years ago when I had my M3 in for service they gave me an X3 loaner. I blew out 2 tires. Called BMW and they brought a tow truck and a different loaner car 335i. I love BMW <3

At 85MPH in my WS6 going down 380 on my way back from clubs in Scranton at 3 am. The entire tire blew off the rim and rolled past me on the highway.

^haha what! First stick shift car I ever owned, my Integra that I bought off here, drove it to my high school senior week. My tire was low on air and while slightly inebriated, I decided to put 60psi in. No lie, 60psi. Didn't drive the car much since I had a bicycle and I was always tanked (senior week, hello) but on the way home on 309 the tire blew out doing like 65mph. Most violent shaking ever because that tire just up and exploded. Had to drive on it for a bit because of the construction and no shoulder so it wound up bending the steelie to look like a sunflower.

Most recently a buddy of mine decided it was better to snug-fit my lug nuts than actually tighten them, and the left front wheel on my 240 flew off while making a turn at ~15-20mph. Luckily, the car only landed on my origin side-skirt shattering it to pieces and my nice Z32 caliper rendering that useless. The wheel bounced down the street like a video game and bounced over the hood (missing the windshield by inches) of an oncoming car doing about 35mph.

I was coming home from work in New Jersey on RT130 I hit a pot hole doing about 65mph in my Ranger on my passengers front tire. Didn't realize I had a flat till I got to the next traffic light.

I have had two nails go into my summer performance tires, but they never caused a blow out or even leaked air. So I left them in there and drove like that for 4 years until I needed a new set of tires.

'90 Integra in 1996. Front left tire blew after I hit a huge gap in the road. Put the spare on and drove away. Front right tire blew 1/2 a mile later. Needless to say, I didn't have a 2nd spare. Had to get the car towed. FML.

blew out 2 tires on my old car years ago when penndot was doing road construction. it was night and they didnt have the manhole covers marked off like they usually do when the road is all ripped up for new pavement. didnt see it and it just caught the side wall of both my drivers side tires. pulled into a gas station about 1/4 mile up the road just as all the air finished out. figured i only had 1 spare so no put on putting it on lol

lost the driver rear outside while towing my 580e home from work at 55mph. sounded like someone fired off a 12 gauge...had to stop and unhitch then limp to the shop

I found the pictures of my first blowout when the tread separated from the sidewall.





Can't fix this with some rubber cement and a patch kit.

^Haha hey some rubber cement and duct tape you should'be been fine.

I'm glad I haven't had the experience of watch my rim or tire roll by me as I'm driving.

my first blow out was coming down a local road in my old sentra. The last part of the hill is blind going over it, and as i crest it there is just a big ass rock there and i barely miss it with my front tire and my back tire clipped it and instantly blew out my tirel and chipped my rim

It wasn't losing air and i needed to get to class so i drove on it w/ the 4ways on then changed the wheel after class..it was a night class too Got up took off the wheel and pulled out that monster! Then just plugged the tire.

Yeah, when I was almost home it happened. No damage to anything. was able to pull over and stop before any damaged happened to the rim. Luck for me I'm sitting on a stock pile of tires.
