Currently the scene is dead because of the cold weather. Once the weather gets warmer there is a meet on 46 West at Pizza 46 on Thursday nights, on 17 South in Paramus at a Dunkin Donuts on Friday nights too. There are other little meets scattered around here and there, but you won't find much in this area until Spring.

MR2 owners have meets every Wednesday evening from 7pm on (usually until 3am for the regulars). Don't need to own a MR2 to join us; only a few of us are bringing them out. One guy drives a 240sx, another brings his IS300 and NELOC, etc. We're fairly diverse in terms of cars. Location varies, though, from the Mall at Short Hills to Clifton Commons.
Typically get around five MR2 owners, though it does randomly spike up to 20+ sometimes. Last edited by Kiro; 02-11-2011 at 03:05 PM. |

Freddy with the black mk1? Thought he went every time; he's there whenever I go. XD
Last Wednesday was at the Commons. I think we're doing something different this week 'cause one guy is coming down from upstate NY. Could be a decent sized turn out. |

I wasn't sure if he still went or even had the MR-2 anymore. It was in rough shape the last time I saw it and I know he wants a Porsche. I wish he would get another second gen Miata. I loved his '02 NB, but he doesn't like getting cars he has already had. Also he will only drive 2 seater, RWD manual cars now which limits his options. He is so picky lol. I should let him drive my Z maybe he will want one.

Yeah, it was in worse condition than mine, which already isn't that great. I know he put it up for sale last year. Don't know if he sold it yet, but he still comes out to meets... I think. Haven't went since November 'cause Clifton is a bit of a drive for me and the weather hasn't really cooperated lately mid-week.
I wouldn't mind a Miata. Z's are cool too. :p Personally not too picky anymore. Just want a car with manual transmission, heat, A/C, and doesn't require frequent repairs. Last edited by Kiro; 02-11-2011 at 04:46 PM. |

As far as I know he didn't sell it but I haven't talked to him in a while. I hope he did, I hated that thing lol. Now if he had a 2nd gen or a MR-S... |

Mine has minimal rust, but it has a few dents here and there. Lots of fun between 5k RPM and redline.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up getting a mk2. The community is swarmed with them, and they have good aftermarket support. The AW11 was a good first try, the SW20 focused more on horsepower, and the MRS's strength is light weight handling. The mid-engine layout is pretty entertaining, granted I've never had the opportunity to drive a FR. I'd like to go back to AWD someday. |

I have driven a friend's 02 MR-S it had full K-Sport coilovers and an after market header. It was without a doubt the most fun car I have driven to date, and I drove a 1971 Datsun 240Z with a L28 and 5 Speed swap (my dream car lol), and a 550 HP Z32. |

No idea what the "Z butt squat" is. My favorite Z is definitely the 240z. Looked at them before buying my AW11, but it's hard to find a clean one for the same price. Unfortunately, most are rust buckets by now. My uncle owns a low mileage stock '00 MRS. I think he's vowed never to sell it, though he says it doesn't have enough power for his liking. Regardless, I'd like to try one out someday... and the turbo mk2 for the heck of it. I like this MR layout with manual steering 'cause you get a whole lot of feedback from the car. Maybe get a used Lotus Exige someday, which is within reason. Next step up would probably be a Rossion Q1. Checked it out at my local Lotus dealer; the pictures really don't do the car justice. Can't believe I turned down an offer to test drive it. Then again, the roads around there have a 25mph speed limit with speed traps at every block. q.q Meh, need to be financially affluent first. Not a chance at ownership otherwise. Sadly enough, my relatively recently obtained SR20DET-swapped 5-speed 200sx (T25; probably about 200hp) is the fastest accelerating car I've ever driven. Understeers like heck atm. Will have to make a few suspension adjustments before putting it back on the road and learn how to handle this much torque. I've always driven automatics or underpowered manual cars, so it's really a new experience for me. |

Yea I like the way MR cars drive but FR cars are just as fun I think.
I know all about under steer. My Spec-V loves to under steer lol. |

Well when I see you at a meet one day in the future (can miss my Z, it is blue :D) I'll let ya hop behind the wheel for a spin. Z's are a lifestyle, and unlike my religion, I push Zs on everyone! Drive one! :D

You trying to convince me to get one? :p
Could be soon. As soon as a location is confirmed for the MR2 meet, I'll let you know. I'll let you drive my AW11 as well to be fair. Gearing is a bit odd, though. First takes me to 20mph, second to 50mph, third to 90mph. Haven't redlined fourth or fifth yet, but apparently the maximum speed for these cars is around 120mph. Takes a while to get there with ~90rwhp, but it makes my commute a little more interesting. |

There's only like 2000 of them left in the US. They cost around 4x's more than what I paid for my N/A. A S/C to N/A swap is much cheaper than buying an original S/C. Getting a S/C AW11 just isn't worth it imo, except for enthusiasts and car collectors. Much better getting a N/A shell for cheap, then swap in a V6 or a 3SGTE or, at the very least, a 20v 4AGE for reliable power with better aftermarket support that the 4AGZE. Sometimes, you'll find these for very cheap (less than the S/C anyway), making the S/C even less appealing.
Like I said, though, I don't have the horsepower bug. Might change when I start driving the 200sx, but for now, I just enjoy driving and attacking the corners. Having an underpowered car puts more emphasis on my driving line. If I had to do it again, I'd probably get a Miata. |
