interesting read for sure, I've done some of my own research on the matter and from what i understand photographers have the right to take a photo of anything, It's what they do with that photo that has the restrictions. I think the only exception is children. But please don't quote what i said as the law, it's just how i understand it.

i can understand questioning someone taking pics of children, but maybe you want to take a photograph of activity at a park? idk while weird it could be harmless, you just never know.

I think there should be some moderation to photograpgy. IE if I ask someone not to take my pic they shouldn't be allowed to. Just some of the crap I see the people in hollywood do should really be considered harassment.

Anyone know what the laws are like on private property with photography? The Cherry Hill mall parking garage was our backup meet spot if it was raining and one night after I had taken a few pictures the security trucks rolled up saying that I wasn't allowed to take any pictures of or in the parking garage and that they had called the cops. As much as I wanted to stick around to see if the power tripping morons had actually called the cops, my inspection was expired so I bugged out.

Trying to capture activity in a park is fine, just try not to capture any face's of the children (if they can not be identified then you "shouldn't" have any problems), otherwise you "should" get written consent from their parent or guardian.
while on private property you are subject to follow the rules of the owners of that property. this goes for just about everything, not just photography. Public areas are different.

This is a summary of what I have been taught just from working with a newspaper:
-Once someone is in public they can be photographed without any consent. Kids are included but we speak to the parents and get their information just in case there is some sort of misunderstanding. -Private property can be photographed as long as the photographer is on public property. For example, if something is going down in the front yard of a house and you are shooting it from the sidewalk you are OK. Once you step onto the property you have to have consent for the images. -Public figures (celebrities, government officials, etc) have far fewer rights when it comes to privacy so there is generally a relaxed mentality when it comes to enforcing their privacy rights -Police or anyone else have zero rights to ask you to delete any images. They can threaten you until the cows come home, but it is completely illegal to ask or force you to do so.
