But in your case Saturn was owned by GM from the get go, Saab was not. Saab was fiddling and tweaking essentially the same 4 cylinder engine for over 30 years. It started life as 8 valve 2.0L NA bought from Triumph, then it grew a turbo, then 16 valve heads, then it grew to 2.3L, until we end up with the finely polished jewel it is today........and GM is killing it off in two years cause "they
need a 6 cylinder."
Anyway, we're getting off topic, my point was GM had no hand in it's developement so conventional GM wisdom doesn't apply to it.
