the short version...
I rode septa all through HS while I worked as a cook/dishwasher in an pizza shop. At 18 shortly after I graduated HS I was kicked out of the house by my step mom. I took the $2,100 I had saved up from working all through school and bought an 89 mustang LX for $1,500 cash and started to rent a room for $70/week. since I've been 18 I've paid for everything myself, nobody gave or bought me a damn thing and I had too much pride to accept it even if they tried. I worked my ass of for a couple years doing misc. min wage ($4.35/hr at the time) BS and saved my money up. at one point I had 3 min. wage jobs at once.
I got into the construction field around 20-21 and realized I could be doing this crap on my own instead of making $$ for someone else, so I started a small business doing water damage restoration & carpet cleaning. About a month later hurrican floyd hit the east coast and I was swamped, literally, with more business then I could shake a stick at. Busted my ass 7 days a week 12+ hrs a day for as long as I could and make a ton of bank for a 21 year old. Luckly I had a good head on my shoulders and invested that bank in real estate and the stock market rather then buying cars.
that was almost 10 years ago. I'm 30 now with an awesome wife, kid on the way, couple of toys, nice house and a decent job just living the American dream. Looking back on my life when I was still 18 and renting a room for $10/day I'm very proud of what I've made myself into and wouldn't change a damn thing.
