A lot depends on the company and the policy you have and a few other factors - but yes, companies do have specific dollar amounts that determine the surcharging of a policy or not.

But you can see the logic there right? A $500 fender bender would obviously be looked at differently than a $5,000 accident. Therefore the company reacts differently depending upon the specific claim.
