The boxer motors tick a crapload at idle anyway even if they are as healthy as ever (in my experience, mine just ticks in normal operation but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it). Having any kind of hardened motor mount won't be the cause of any kind of "knock"... a video would be the best way for us to tell you what it is.
And timing belt should be fine. I am on factory timing belt at 117k miles and basically I was told by Ryan at 1320 that I should be good for a little bit longer but as a rule of thumb I should just get it done whenever possible.
