Get the volvo, you will have so much more fun with it. Few things, frosted it's a P80 V70 :P sorry I had to. Your XC70 is a P1, which is stunning i may add! 98 is the last "good" year, no VVT or electronic throttle, good old 2.3 whiteblock from the 850's. The oil trap job is a little involved but definitely doable, a lift is recommended. I had access to a lift at work and it made getting the lower intake bolts off a lot easier. The A/C issue is probably an evaporator, you can recharge but it will leak right out. Only way to find a non leaking evaporator is to get a OE updated evaporator. Also you will love the seats for sure, plus the power and sound. Lastly check timing belt, they are due every 70k which is a decently low interval. Besides that, have fun! Not sure if you plan on modding but a downpipe, exhaust, TIP and a Snabb tune can open up a lot of power, especially since your 98 has the nice 16t turbo vs. the less efficient 15g.
