personally i cant be stuck with primes. in fact, over the past five years, i have only kept one prime in my arsenal, and i dont even use it very much. i dont know what i would do without my 24-70 2.8. i think if i had to pick one lens, it would be that. it helps that it is tack sharp, extremely fast focus, and built like a tank. in fact, i rented that lens to take to china on vacation, and i can only think of two times that i took it off the camera. then again, all of this is subjective and depends much on what exactly you shoot. i think the only time that i use the only prime i have, the 50 1.8, is with my daughter.
