As for your questions, I used Photomatix essentials trial version. My camera had Auto exposure bracketing which I used. They were one stops apart (-1, 0, +1). I guess I'll try what you said, 5 shots 1/2 steps apart manually. I'll also check out that software that you mentioned. I'm just starting out in photography and my usual subject is my car lol. Any tips and comments will always be appreciated.

on another note, its funny how things work. those two spiral staircase photos were only taken because i was actually photographing some of my actual canvas prints being manufactured for my new web site. the building is an art gallery in one part and an apartment building in another. i just happened to see the stairs and take some snaps of it. well the owner of the art gallery and building, who is a world recognized artist herself, saw the black and white one and liked it, so i showed her the other one and she bought them both on the spot! it was def the quickest that i have ever taken an image and sold it!
