You want a cheap as hell car, that gets good MPGs on regular, and is cheap to maintain you should look into Saturns. 240s are ALWAYS over priced and USUALLY trashed.
My old Saturn went 285k miles on it when my parents got rid of it. It needed like $75 in parts and some time to diagnose it and they were too lazy. Took it to a scrap yard rather then just give it back to me. I was so pissed. Thing was actually mint. Plastic doesn't rust and I had 10 years of receipts for all the maintance I did. It never actually had stuff fail. Cheapest car I ever owned. Got it at auction in 2001 for $600 with 190k miles.
