If it's your first track day and NASA is running the program, then you won't have a choice but to have an instructor for the entire day. If you've done a few HPDEs but not on the course that you are running that day, then you will probably have an instructor for a session or two--until they are comfortable that you are not a serious threat to anyone else in your run group.
