You don't have to believe in some sort of mystical 'event' to just look around and take everything in and realize we're at a real f***ed up and unstable point in time. Observing such a thing should only leave your mind open to the possibility that 2012 could be a year of tremendous change if for no other reason than coincidence. We've had problems before, since the beginning of time really, but the problems we face now are of a different nature. Instability on a large scale can lead to a domino effect once there's some sort of catalyst thrown into the mix. I don't see it out of the realm of possibility if 2012 did turn out to be "the end of the world", even if only in a "as we know it" sense. You can choose whatever apocalyptic event you want to subscribe to, but there's no doubt in my mind that the next few years will prove to be very very eventful.
