Taking the engine out would be a significant amount more work. I have had awd turbo trannys on the ground in 30 minutes. Depends on the person working on the car. Everything is essentially a nut and bolt, but it can be more complicated than that. Not sure waht to tell you . . .
Pull the battery, intake, shifter linkage, anything else that might be in your way, pull the tires, i believe its a 1.25" nut that holds the axle, 17mm for the tie rod and 2 17mm bolts that hold the struts. Pop the axles, (not sure if there are 2 14mm's that hold the drivers side axle in on n/a 1g's), disconnect the slave 12mm, starter 14mm, i want to say 5 14mm bell housing bolts but you have to look and see and there is one above the oil pan that holds the tranny in that goes the opposite way as the rest of the bolts.
If you know what to do it should not be to hard, power tools also helps the procedure. THe flywheel bolts can also be a little pesky at times.
Forgot 17mm tranny mount on the passenger side and 4 14mm that go in towrds the engine bay from inside the wheel well. Makes install a little easier
