If you like the compact XD but feel the grip is a bit large and the gun itself is a bit thick you should find the M&P compact just about perfect. Those were the exact same 2 complaints my wife had with the XD compact and the M&Pc solved them both. In fact, she was about to go with the XD, then expressed those 2 concerns to the sales guy and he handed her the M&P 9c which we hadn't even considered. Slimmer frame, and interchangeable back straps to accommodate different hand sizes. Just make sure you don't get the one with the magazine disconnect, unless of course you like that feature. The trigger might feel a little "crunchy" at first too, but it smooths out once some rounds are put through it.
