Another Rex bites it. I crashed mine a few weeks back on my commute to work. The road was slick but even worse yet there were patches of black ice. Stupid me saw the ouside temp at 38f and thought there wasn't a hazzard. I learned the hard way.
The back end started shifting right- I counter turn left, the rear quickly swerves right, and so on ...into a fish tail. I finally lock it in but slide diagonally off the right shoulder into a small tree spinning me backwards hitting a larger tree against my front driver's side wheel (bending the tire inward). The cheap Tire Rack ASA's didn't hold up to well....cracked all but completly in half long-ways along the inner rim. The bumper, right headlamp, fender, wheel, and control arm are damaged. Estimated damage in the 5k range. Still driving the awefull Buik rental car awaiting my car to be fixed. Shop is taking their dandy ol' time.
If I get it back and it doesn't drive like new- I'm trading it for one of the SRT-8 models. ;)
How hard did you hit? Are you sure you came close to totaling it? Totaling mine would have been easier because I have gap insurance- and I'd probably be driving my new car replacment this week.
Btw, anyone who said Progressive stink at handling claims...has never had Progressive handle their claim. Everything has been excellent so far! *knock on wood*
