Discover and amex are nice but you need a visa/mc as backup because not everyone accepts them. I have credit cards with rewards and points and because of this I put everything I buy on the credit cards and pay them off at the end of the month (well most of the time). As a result both of my bose companion 2 computer speaker setups were free and I have like $700 in discover cash back bonus and I already redeemed some of it for gift cards for lowes and whatnot which end up being like 2% or more cash back in total. 2% off *everything* you buy can end up being pretty sweet.
