That sounds like a good idea. The TS thing started when my wife was looking for a gym to start going to and a friend convinced her to try out the Tiger Schulmann program which led to her inviting me. I was really skeptical at first but got a free week of classes and thought it was pretty legit - instructors that knew what they were doing and ranked you by skill level instead of simply how many classes you had been to. The plus was the other students weren't a bunch of big burly tough guys that would intimidate my wife out of going.

Well, 2 years later she decided she's not into it anyway and the classes I've paid for are almost used up and I've been thinking about going somewhere a little more "hardcore" now that she won't be tagging along. Rat Pack is actually probably closer than TS to me (I'm actually kinda between north whitehall and walnutport, just about a mile off MacArthur Rd. I know it's gotta cheaper than TS. Cost is the biggest thing pushing me away from signing back up with that place.

I'd love to come by one night just as a spectator or something to get an idea of how you guys train over there. Do they offer any sort of free trial classes? Do you train grappling in a gi? That's something I haven't done at all yet. TS is all no-gi grappling.

As for my personal goals, just so you know what I'm looking for, I got into this mostly for the self-defense and exercise aspect, plus of course it's a lot of fun and I've been into martial arts ever since growing up on kung-fu movies and the early UFCs brought home by my TKD blackbelt dad. However, I've recently decided that I'd like to actually get in the cage once or twice. I have no notions of becoming a pro fighter or anything, I just like to test myself and I love competition. (I also used to really like getting into street fights for some reason back in my highschool days - even the ones I lost were fun. Guess I'm just a sucker for punishment.)
