Doesn't matter that you only spent $1k and tuition is $10k. That is still $1K that you wasted when you could help pay your way. If my kid were to do that to me, I'd drop him on his ass. Just sayin. I'm not trying to say don't have fun, but that would be like my parents paying my college/ect and then me buying a brand new car. The amount doesn't matter, its the principle.
Def fell your pain about the first 2 years or so being worthless. I don't know why college takes so long. Personally I think 2.5 years is enough to learn what you need in the majority of majors.
