I'm not for banning guns, I'm for not carring them arround for no good reason. There is a reason police officers and people like that go through psych tests and special trainings that the average citizen does not. I served in the Army, I know what I need to know to handle a weapon, and I am not dumb enough to carry just for the sake of it.
Seatbelts are required by law so how does that compare?

If you honestly think there could never be a time in anyone's life that they might need a firearm, you sir, are the one who needs mental help. Isn't it interesting that when anti-gun people are threatened or in trouble, they call the police - because they have guns. Then they bash others for taking responsibility for their own safety while expecting the cops to protect them, since they are too lazy, stupid, girly, ignorant, etc, to take care of themselves. Of course the funny thing about all this is that the supreme court has found the police have NO DUTY to protect you. Yes, that's right, your personal safety and that of your loved ones is YOUR responsibility, not the cop's. and judging by how often cases of police brutality, cover-ups accidental shootings, etc, I'd much rather it be that way. How some people leave the protection of themselves and their loved ones to chance just blows my mind.
That very well may happen in my lifetime, but I'm not paranoid either. People that worried about stuff are the ones that usually fire out of panic and cause more damage then harm. Until someone has been trained, and even then there is no guarentee they will know what to do when the time comes. Huge difference between being in a controled range then when panic, adrenline, and an instant to react takes place.
I've heard it suggested that those who choose not to own firearms should be taxed at a higher rate than firearm owners because it is their rejection of weapons and personal responsibility that causes the need for police. Interesting...
Dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. Sounds like you are just trying to justify it for peronal reasons rather then practility/need.
