A lot of people say don't put cheap glass in front of expensive glass, and for that reason I tend to buy top dollar CP's and UV/Protective filters. You can spend $20 - $220 depending.
I use B+W Kaesemann CPs in 77 and 82mm, both slim. They're not cheap, but they look great.
