Anyone I know?? The E31 8 series was considered an Exotic back in the day, maybe because of the $100,000 price tag? Yes they're heavy, but very very stable at speeds over 100+, that's what they were designed for.(to cover long distance at high speed, autobahn cruiser to be exact.) Yes they're a bit sluggish from the start, but when the throttle bodies open up at around 3700rpm they start pulling, and my V12 pulls pretty good up to about 170mph. She still has more, but that's my limit!

It's sad the car got a bad rep from the begining of it's life, and it stuck like glue. Yes parts are expensive, but worth it IMHO. My car is my DD and has been trouble free for 3yrs and I get asked all the time if it's new model. If anyone is thinking of getting one now's the time. You can pick up a really nice one for between $6K/$13K..

Now would you consider this an exotic?

This will be my next car maybe next year or the following. You can pick up a really nice Testarossa for about $45K....Not bad for a $190,000 car..
