Hoegaarden (Belgian White Beer)
Known as “Bieres Blanches” in French, the Belgian white wheat
beers are brewed using about 50% wheat and a combination of spices, typically, orange peel and coriander.
Hoegaarden,is a refreshing cloudy lemon coloured beer.
The sweet/sour and spicy taste and subtle hop bitterness and
aroma makes it distinctively different.
1 can concentrated Wheat wort
1Kg Dry Wheat Malt Extract (or 1kg wheat + 1kg dextrose)
15g coriander seeds (crushed)
2 tablespoons of orange peel (remove pith and use zest only)
1 packet yeast. (Usually comes with concentrated wort)
Bottle Conditioning 6 weeks (min)
METHOD:
- In a brew pot bring 2 litres of water to the boil, add malt, coriander and orange peel, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes then turn heat off.
- Add the can of wheat wort and stir until dissolved.
- Rest for 15 minutes and then strain into your fermenter.
- Top up to 23 Liters with cold water (5 Gallons)
- When temperature is between 20*C and 27*C add the yeast
- Ferment out in the usual way.
