I own the 17-40L and it is great. I would not spend next to double for the 16-35, it really has such a limited use at f2.8. But if you can find the version 1 used, it would be pretty close in price to the 17-40.
i had a 10-22 Canon on a cropped body, the 17-40/16-35 Full frame are equivalent to the 10-22 on a cropped sensor.
I have a 10-22 that i would be willing to let go?

Isn't the Canon 10-22 an EF-S lens? I thought those won't work on a full frame camera. I'm considering the 17-40L...just waiting for a used one to pop up.
