after owning two some seem to come from the factory more problematic than others so it seems like a gamble. But it has a lot to do with the way your treat your maintenance. If you keep up with the small stuff than you help deter the bigger problems. But yea my 94 poopstang didn't have the give me any headaches with 130k on it and my gti has less than 40 with no mods and babied and just broke. So VW's can become maintence whores.
