I'd go to both workers/friends at the same time, let them know the situation and ask if one of them wants to step down, if not I flip a coin. If that doesn't work whoever has the most money on them to give me wins (kidding).
Q: Your one of the two above workers, you have a wife who makes alot of money, and you constantly get other job offerings (just none at the moment). Would you step down to save your fellow worker his job who lives alone and lives pay check to pay check (although they are still responsible)?
