Oakes - Detailed: 2003 Volkswagen 20th Anniversary GTi - 97TurboDSM

A full paint corrective detail of a badly swirled 2003 Volkswagen 20th Anniversary GTi, in Imola Yellow. The car has been repainted in the rear passenger quarter panel, and looked to have either been improperly prepped or finished, due to a severe haziness around the window. The front bumper also was repainted at some point in the wrong shade of yellow.

The goal was to rid the swirls and balance out the paint as much as possible, the gauge gave us readings from 70-289 which was pretty unstable. Most of the bizzare readings were in the repainted quarter, the rest of the car was consistently in the 113-160 range. The car had some oxidation and heavy swirling which gave the yellow a more faded look, we were able to restore the gloss and give it a healthier look. I was unable to get finished photos in the sun due to time constraints and getting the car back to the owner later at night.

The vehicle arrived very dirty and was contaminated heavily required Clay Magic Red - Agressive Clay, claying the vehicle took 2 hours alone. The headlights were also wet sanded and repolished to get rid of the yellow haze that was developing.

Process:

Menzerna Power Gloss - Purple wool

Menzerna 203 - Orange Foam
Menzerna 85RD - Green Foam

Post Prep photos, showing the defects in the paint:

Now onto everyone's favorite, the 50/50 photos, which are rather dramatic for such light colored paint.

Now for the corrected paint photos:

Reflection photos, as if the car wasn't yellow enough to begin with!

Some Finished photos of the whole car, unfortunately I lost daylight, thanks to winter.

Enjoy! As always, comments appreciated!
