However, the A4 wouldn't have the suspension or the brakes to handle the extra horses and the S4 would smoke the chipped A4 in any twisties. Prestige, of course! The silk nappa leather and alcantara interior are part of it. The auto dimming rear view mirror and side view mirrors are part of it. I love my cars and I want a car that is as visually appealing to me and makes me smile when I drive it. An Aston DBS will not win any races stock, but the visual beauty of it is part of the prestige of buying one, hence the almost $200k price tag. Your car is supposed to make you feel special. I'm not proving anything to anyone by buying an S4. If I wanted to try to show off I would have purchased an S class Mercedes.

You have an M3. You are honestly telling me and everyone here that it had nothing to do with prestige? Be honest, why else would you buy an M3?

Here:

pres⋅tige
–noun
1. reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank, or other favorable attributes.

Isn't that what separates an M3 from a 330 and an S4 from an A4.

Think hard before you try to fire back. I'm wearing my flameproof suit.
really?

your "flameproof suit" does not take away from the fact that your silly tone of pretentiousness is unwarranted. the copying and pasting of an online dictionary definition for prestige as if we are not aware what it means are laughable.

there is nothing to think hard over.

nor did i even suggest that there is anything to "prove" with what one drives. your take is that driving a certain car is supposed to make you feel special. the way you put it can be easily interpreted as your having mundane values. at the same time, you do mention buying an s class as a way to show of....hey, that's fine.

btw, dbs's msrp is significantly over 200k. with just a handful of options and the premium that dealers put on them when they first could be ordered, the price was way over.

there are several reasons i bought an m3. i will return the favor of your patronizing: do not jump to conclusions about someone b/c of what s/he drives. do not assume you know what or why something is. prestige is hardly what most use to describe owning and/or driving a car. sure, you can apply it to cars or other materialistic things. but in the end, as the saying goes, the driver makes the car not the other way around. sure, with a car, you can be happy or whatever you want to say, but you should be the same person without it.

what has the m3 "done" for me? sure, it is a great part of a hobby many of us share. it has been a source of fun as well as stress relief at times, etc.

if i want prestige, i will go read more great books and gain more knowledge; i will strive to be a better person; i will cherish human relationships and not be so dismissive of most; and, most importantly, i will fulfill the desire only a means to an end....b/c in the end, prestige sounds like such a lofty goal or achievement, but it's not. it is what you do with prestige that you have acheived or obtained.

back on topic: OP, do what you want. to each, his/her own. if you like it, that is all that f'ing matters IMO.
