well they say time is money. but with a house it goes both ways. the time you spend working on it could be time your at your job making money, but if the money you make at work is less per hour than you would be paying a contractor, than its worth it. on top of that, after you put in so many of your own man hours and get the house nicer, the value goes up much more than all of the materials and hours you put in... its worth it in all ways.

don't expect huge increases in home value especially if the comps in the area are about what you pay!!

unfortunately where I'm at we're living in one of the more expensive homes in our street. Putting serious work won't just raise the value of the home since the neighboring homes are valued much less.

that's also why they say don't have the nicest house in the neighborhood even though we didn't listen to that!
