Unlike your car, our cars are a bit cramped in the engine bay so getting rid of the battery and putting it in the trunk helps clear the clutter a little.
Also, it helps balance the car a bit getting it closer to the ideal 50/50 split where the car weighs equally front and back. A well balanced car is easier to control around turns during breaking and acceleration.
