there actually is a big difference between LTCF and CCW permit. the guys on PAFOA stress that
a lot. It has everything to do with the fact that other states that call it a Carry Concealed Weapons permit have certain rules and requirements that are much different than PA's LTCF, so to avoid confusion and reinforce the idea that PA's laws are different (in a good way) than other states, people make a big deal about the definition. I only mentioned it because the OP's just getting into carrying and he might as well get started right. PA has a LTCF, not CCW... and if you say anything other than LTCF to someone 'in the know', they'll scold ya for it. lol. It's just semantics, nothing more.

that permit gives you rights to conceal it, in fact you want to conceal it to keep it a low profile.

this is completely a matter of opinion. i happen to agree with you on it. i have nothing against open carry but i'd rather conceal. people who advocate
Open Carry have a very strong and valid argument that OC is the better way to carry and gets more accomplished. personal preference all the way.

you can open carry it anywhere in pa though, except philly. in philly it needs to be concealed.

this is incorrect. philly is a city of the first class, but this changes nothing about PA's gun laws except for the fact that people who choose to open carry need to have a License To
Carry Firearms (where the semantics come into play) whereas in the rest of the commonwealth, you can open carry with no license at all while on foot.
