Me too. I literally hate the taste/sight/smell of pepper. The fish was literally covered in it. The fish was made with almond butter sauce. Why ruin such a delicate sauce with gobs of pepper? I will never understand. Why drench fish in salt, too? I wonder if they're covering the fact that the fish isn't top notch.
It's annoying because I wouldn't have minded asking for "no pepper and salt, please" if they had warned you on the menu. But no indication whatsoever. They had one of those retarded "abstract" menus. Y'know.. like
Almond butter trout + apple wood smoked bacon hash + beans

seriously though, nice to see people still going out and enjoying restaurants even in this economy. as for your experience, salt and pepper are basic basic basic seasonings, but its nice to see they did right by you. its very tough to get a kitchen in sync that first few days, but obviously they have some intelligent enough people over there to realize buying you dessert ect is the right move.

Yeah, I do see calamari really frequently! I'm kind of glad though because I honestly love calamari, haha. No torte though, they had some okay sounding deserts. But of course they had creme brulee, whatta surprise!
And I agree, salt and pepper are basic seasonings but they should be added to "taste" not to drench and drown out any other tastes. Literally I could taste nothing BUT pepper. Couldn't even tell I had just tasted fish.
But yeah their drink special worked out for Brandon, haha. It was two free beers, two cocktails or two glasses of wine, or a combination thereof.
I'd be willing to go back.. I'd just have to remember to say hold the f'ing salt and pepper preeeease
