GWB "Constitution??? F*** that noise!"

I once stated in another thread that it would take years for Bush's legacy to be determined. I stand corrected.

He supported the type of atmosphere in his administration that one of his major players thought it would be ok to even suggest
Quote:
In perhaps the most surprising assertion, the Oct. 23, 2001, memo suggested the president could even suspend press freedoms if he concluded it was necessary to wage the war on terror. "First Amendment speech and press rights may also be subordinated to the overriding need to wage war successfully," Yoo wrote in the memo entitled "Authority for Use of Military Force to Combat Terrorist Activity Within the United States."

This claim was viewed as so extreme that it was essentially (and secretly) revoked—but not until October of last year, seven years after the memo was written and with barely three and a half months left in the Bush administration.

Did they ever follow through with it? No, but that fact that key admin even thought it would be ok to propose this in a memo is direct reflection on how little regard the Constitution was given in the Bush years.

The memos that have been released in the last few days are painting an early picture of the extremes that the entire Bush administration was considering in order to declare martial law in the U.S.

Very scary stuff.
