It was around these times (late 2004 - early 2005) that I personally began to see a growth in local area WRXs.
Now the WRX, STi, and Evolution are all "metoo" cars.

I don't see why a car being appealing to alot of people and alot of them buying it classifies them as jumping on a bandwagon. I think the real word for it is a good product and good marketing and a good price.
