As far as automotive photography goes, I think Andy Wee is sick.

James Nachtwey (
http://jamesnachtwey.com/) is inspiring as hell. One of the greatest photojournalists ever. There is a really interesting documentary on him called War Photographer which I think has a general appeal because it is an eyewitness look at war and its prolonged effects, but is particularly interesting to photographers / journalists.
If you dont know his name, you will know his photos. Here are some of them...

Afghanistan, 1996 - Mourning a brother killed by a Taliban rocket.

South Africa, 2000 - Grandmother cared for young girl affected by HIV.

Guatemala, 1983 - Clergy traveled in military helicopters to the mass of
Pope John Paul II in the war zone.

Nicaragua, 1984 - Relic of civil war became a monument in a park

South Africa, 1992 - Xhosa young men in rite of passage.

Somalia, 1992 - Child starved by famine, a man-made weapon of mass
extermination.

Kosovo, 1999 - Ruins of Djacovica, destroyed by Serbs.

Rwanda, 1994 - Survivor of Hutu death camp.

Chechnya, 1996 - Ruins of central Grozny.
