And I think its 10 jumps to get certified, you've got to show that you can handle yourself, first tandem and then solo... but its damn expensive.
Actually, if you sign up for classes, your first jumps do NOT have to be tandem. That's how B did it -- he's never done a tandem, and he's got his A license.

But it's even possible to **** up a tandem. B saw one almost go very badly the other day. The girl who was attached freaked out and didn't hold her body how she was supposed to -- wound up twisting up the lines of the parachute so it couldn't open. The skydiver she was attached to just barely got the main parachute cut away and forced the girl to straighten up in time to deploy the reserve parachute -- and they still landed hard and she wound up with a broken arm.

That's not really something I wanna go through!
