yea you can always be a fan of guns and go to the range and all and not carry if you dont need to...i carry for certain reasons, i mean im not in a bad area either but i was visiting king of prussia area and got robbed before, of course before i carried..and i deliver pizza sometimes really late at night and happen to be carrying decent amounts of cash by the end of the night...which could sometimes give someone an idea..the gun is there to change their mind
oh and side note...the xd series are nice guns..my friend that shot his floor board has an xd40 subcompact..
