Haven't been on in while and not sure if this is the right category, but just wanna let everyone know I'm the 2008 Mountain Speedway (aka Evergreen Speedway from a long time ago) Street Stock Champion! Clinched it right before the last points race!
The 2nd to last race in which i clinched the championship is I think all luck! 99.9% of the time it would have been catastrophic failure! Ok, so this race was double points and 77 laps (Mark Corbisiero Memorial Race). We normally run 25 lap races, so its a long race
. Well anyway, around lap 35-40 I was in 2nd place after starting 8th. I felt a lack of power and under caution I heard a hissing sound which sounded like exhaust. I had no idea what was happening other then my oil pressure was bouncing from 20 - 40lbs. On lap 50, there was a mandatory caution as this Sunday (9/14/08) was extremely hot and muggy outside which is unusual in September (imagine being in a 130 degree car with a nomex suit, helmet, gloves, and shoes. Yeah its hot!
) After are brief break/interview was over which felt like an eternity for me since I was just worried if the motor was gonna stay together we went back to racing. I restarted third. With about ten laps to go, I passed the 2nd place car on the outside for his spot. At the end I was actually catching the leader, who dominated the whole race. No doubt in my mind i could have won if I was running on all 8 cylinders! So after we get back to the shop my dad takes the right side valve cover off and he just sees debris everywhere. From what I remember #8 cylinder exhaust valve spring broke, the valve got bent and stuck in the guild, dinged 2 roller rockers and a bunch of other **** that i can't remember. lol. How the **** does that happen?!?!?! lol. Talk about luck! Something that should have blown up didn't! lol. My dad built that motor 2.5 years ago and since then we never replaced anything internal. Talk about a miracle! Guess I had angels on my shoulders that day
