I absolutely agree it was a snide comment against the POLICIES of McCain, but it had absolutely nothing to do with Palin and that's what they turned it into. Did you watch the ad that's on McCain's website in the first link in the post? It's completely misleading and a little ridiculous. I'm not trying to say that only McCain has negative things to say at all, but I do see a difference in what's being attacked.
And again, as for the reaction from the crowd, I think you give them too much credit. I watched a lot of the RNC, but I didn't catch most of Palin's speech (including the lipstick line) and I wouldn't have connected it with that at all. You really think everyone in that crowd watched Palin's RNC speech and immediately thought, oh lipstick, he must be talking about Palin?? I think the reaction was simply for making a "comical" analogy.
