horrible.

A Sinking Spring man died in a crash involving a motorcycle and a dump truck Monday afternoon at Route 322 and the Route 222 southbound on-ramp in Ephrata Township, police said.

After the 4:39 p.m. wreck, the motorcyclist was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ephrata Police Department said it would not identify the 25-year-old victim Monday evening because his family, with the exception of his parents, had not been notified.

The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Route 322 when he collided with a dump truck that was turning left from Route 322 westbound onto the Route 222 southbound on-ramp at 4:39 p.m., Ephrata Sgt. Philip Snavely said.

Police identified the dump truck driver as James Ludwig, 39, of York Springs. Ludwig was not injured in the crash.

"It appears, from witness statements, that both had a green light," Snavely said.

Because the accident is still under investigation, Snavely said it is not known whether speed was a factor or if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Anyone who witnessed the wreck is asked to contact Ephrata police at 738-9200.

Ephrata police were assisted at the scene by Ephrata Ambulance, Pioneer Fire Department, Ephrata Medic 4, Ephrata Fire Police and East Cocalico police.
