Looking to get into a first bike... not looking to buy this thing but was just curious about it. Isn't 300rwhp a little too much for a bike? lol

Turbo busa's are pretty common... I've seen them run a solid 7 seconds down the track at englishtown... I agree that its asking for trouble, but I dont think its too much. It may be too much for you and me, but it only takes time to change that. My bikes a 700 that makes roughly 90HP. I thought I'd never floor it when I first got it, but here I am today confident flooring it, and I also feel like I'd be able to handle something faster if I wanted to hop on it.
Eventually people get used to and out grow the power that their toy makes. After awhile 300hp feels slow, and you move to 400, and so on again...


A busa is not a good first bike, It will stand up strait, spin its tire, and lay down easy since its heavy.. Get yourself something you can handle..

2. 300HP is a LOT for a bike, let alone for a first bike. You're an idiot if you are even remotely considering that thing. Not to mention it can't do anything but go straight.

3. What Rich said is kind of true, about people "getting used to" their bikes and wanting to upgrade, the problem is they RARELY can use the bike to its full potential and just want something faster so they feel faster when they'd be better off spending their money on a track day and actually learn a thing or two about riding a motorcycle.

If your serious, start small. Hell, the first thing you should buy is some proper riding gear. Get a good helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, and pants. Then look for a bike. Nothing wrong with starting small with a Ninja 250 or something. Hell, I'd venture to guess most guys out there on their 600's and 1000's couldn't even use a Ninja 250 for everything it has to offer. I've seen good riders pass bigger bikes on 250's. Then once you've learned some skills you can always turn around and sell it quickly when you're ready to move on to something bigger.

I'd still be riding my 250 if I hadn't seen the '09 color scheme for the R6.

Thats too much bike to start with, but I wouldnt get anything less than 500cc for a first bike. A Ninja 250 is a glorified moped. Unless you have ZERO experience on ANYTHING with two wheels, id get something between 500-800cc.

A 250 is not a bad starting bike, and its very forgiving if you have never shifting on a bike before... My first bike was a 250cc kawasaki that I only rode around the block to get myself to a point where I could walk out of the dealer with my Duc and not crash it... Now I have my 696 and so far I havent dumped it *knock on wood*. I've come close, but it was avoided because I bought a small, and light bike that I have NO problems keeping up.

A 250 is a good start, but I would NOT ride it in traffic, you may end up needing power that isnt there... What if you had cars trying to come into you on both sides and car behind you? at 80MPH a 250 is a absolute DOG, and will not move you out of the way fast enough...

Also I see a lot of dick aittitude in here... the kids just looking at the busa, and his OP stated he does not want to buy it.


IMO the best advice dude is start small, and get something the size of you. Dont hop on a GSXR or Harley that you cant hold up. Also Dont get anything above a 600 if its a sport bike. A bike is only as fast as you make it go, but picture when you slip off the clutch too hard, and you fly back. Your hand is going to twist the throttle, and if that happens you may not be able to recover on a faster bike..

I had my 250 for over 2 years and rode it on the highway, 202/422 to be exact, daily. It was perfectly fine. Hell, I've even got stopped for doing 95 in a 55 on it.

If anyone noticed he said he's NOT looking at buying it, he was just curious about the bike.

My 2 cents is that the add is a scam, $3800 bucks. I have also come to learn that the majority of people I have encountered who have the ultra blingy repli-racers and busa's and such don't have a clue about riding, they just have the bike for the attention factor.

I agree with the 250 sentiment around here. Sure its small and slow by motorcycle standards, but its just as quick as most cars on the road AND a 250 will keep you out of trouble with the law for the most parts. If I recall correctly it won't break into the triple digits.

agencyone0one, a 250 can get into triple digits, going downhill with the wind at your back, lol. The highest I ever had mine was 112mph indicated with about 10% error so something like 101mph would be my guess.

Maybe Im just weird then, but I cant imagine riding a bike any slower than my SV650. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a bike in my opinion.

If you rocked a 250 for two years, then good for you, but you should at least be willing to admit that you are not the norm. 90% of the people who buy a Ninja 250 sell it after a season.

That is because 90% of people buy a motorcycle for the "image." Those are the idiots you see riding wheelies down the highway with a tank top, shorts, and flip flops.

I got a bike because I've been riding motorcycles basically since I could walk. I love being on two wheels. I love the freedom. I can appreciate the ride no matter how quick I can get to 100mph.

My practice while riding is to normally obey speed limits on straight roads and get a little spirited on the nice curves.

That craigslist add looks like a scam. They didnt even spell Suzuki right.

If you have experience riding, then get what you feel comfortable riding with. Alot of my friends had riding experience from borrowing bikes from other friends. Then when they went out to get their own bike they stepped right up to Busa's and 1000's without any problem at all. Never dumped them at all. It doesnt matter what size bike you have, it depends on how you ride it. If you ride like a dickhead whether your on a 250 or a busa, your gonna end up going down. I myself had only ridden a 100cc dirtbike, and the first street bike I got on was a turbo busa. Didnt have any problem with it.

You could always go with a GSX-R 1000 and ride it in 600 mode til you get more comfortable. Then when you are ready for more power you dont have to go get a new bike, just change the power mode :mrgreen:

Lol.. What are you guys talking about people buy bikes for the image? People buy bikes because they are awesome, and they are old enough to make their own choices. Who is to say that just because someone didn't grow up around motorcycles, that they shouldn't be able to ride one? That is a joke! You have to have the biggest ego in the world to say that.

Yeah no way do I want something that fast as a first bike... or ever. I was just curious because I know bikes that have around 100hp is considered fast... and 300hp is just ridiculous on a bike to me since my car isn't even that powerful but its still pretty quick lol.

I am looking into cruisers actually... something older that is under $1,000. Anyone have any suggestions?

Gonna be hard to find much under $1000 unless it doesn't run. Could get a Rebel, lol.

I started on a 250 Ninja and then upgraded to a 600. Honestly, I don't feel I got anythoug out of the 250. It is about respect, doesn't matter what size it is because they all drop the same.
