My Evo VIII build -2.2L stroker / 607whp on pump, water meth

Ok I guess this is the start of my 'build journal' for my car. Bought this thing bone stock as a gift to mysef for coming back from deployment alive.

When the Evo emerged for US sale in 03, I instantly fell in love and like most Evo owners, had to have one. My Evo VIII GSR was always just a dream for me to own, did a tour in Iraq just to finally get one and then another tour in Afghanistan for what I refer to as "mod money." haha It was origionally sold by a dealer in Seattle, WA. where it was the owner of the dealers wife's demo and literally sat in their garage. I purchsed it through a dealer in Great Falls, MT, where I was currently stationed with the military and eventually trailerd it from Montana to Pennsylvania. I really hate to admit it, but it basically sits covered in my garage and is only driven on nice, sunny days. I know all the hard-core Subie/Evo guys are shaking your head at me for that..but hey, it is what it is. Bought it at the end of '04 with 4k and currently it only has 35k total miles, so ya can see how little it's actaully driven, but I still managed to make it a certified 100mph club car from Beaver Springs Dragway. ;)

Alright, enough with the history lesson, lets get to the part that everyone always wants to know, the mods...the car is in a huge transition right now and is constantly 'evolving.' I've tried to keep the mods tasteful, yet practical, so here is a current list along with some pics. Everyone always asks "why didn't you go with a huge turbo, like a 35R etc?" And the simple answer is, I still really love to drive my car. I mean, nothing against those of you with large frame turbos, but I didn't want all the dreaded lag, so I opted instead for the CBRD BBK set-up. For the same money, I got awesome power gains, plus I can still take it out on the weekends and destroy some backroad twisties. Perhaps one day I may take it to that level, but for now it's a killer street and wild auto-x car. I'll keep updating as I get more done or you can check my profile as the car is in the shop more then in my garage.

Here are the numbers thus far:

Since the recent 2.2 motor, water/meth kit car put down 607hp@38psi

Car origionally put down 425whp/391wtq @ 28psi with a mild tune on CBRD's Mustang II load-bearing dyno on 93 octane pump-gas. However, with some tweaking and a more aggressive tune, it put down 456whp/422wtq @ 31psi on straight pump-gas. Did some more tweaking and with an extremely aggressive tune and some 100 octane race fuel made 504whp/443wtq @ 33psi (which is about all the stock block could take). I want to break 600whp, so the stock bottom end will have to go. That's next on the agenda...****ing money-pit.

yeah we honestly didn't expect those numbers...lol. Haven't found a set of wheels that i really like yet.

SvicksTc 04-13-2010 12:25 AM

nice car and hella nice numbers....looks great

Eclipse GSX 61 04-13-2010 12:38 AM

Nice car minus the yellow. Never was a fan but hell it is still clean. I suggest you get the stock styled carbon fiber lip, and the carbon fiber fog light shrouds which people rivet on there. That would set the front of the car off.

AlterEvo 04-13-2010 12:32 PM

I have the VIS G-sport front bumper that's currently being painted...has a lip already. Should make it look slightly more aggressive.

Awesome! Can't wait to see whats in store for it down the road!

Teku18 04-13-2010 01:49 PM

Sberk06 04-13-2010 03:03 PM

yeah that was me lol...shoulda stopped me on the way out
there are 2 other yellow ones running around besides mine, one is a guy in our club with a lot of mismatched cf peices/black wheels, and another with a stock exterior, but he's a cock and tries to race everyone lol.

dsm4life04 04-13-2010 07:32 PM

OK sweet, i went by on 422 on my bike so all i saw was the rear end. But from what i saw it looked good. Nice to see there's something other than honda's and VW's in town haha.

bl@ckvr4 04-13-2010 07:55 PM

**** me sideways! A yellow Evolution. The one rare color you got there.

Props. Nice car and even nicer numbers!

AlterEvo 04-14-2010 08:56 PM

haven't seen too many yellow ones. always liked the blue, but i got what was available, and looking back, wouldn't change it

Updated as of 4/25 with a ton of new parts, lemme know what ya'll think! :)

Put down 417whp/391wtq on CBRD's mustang II dyno! The TQ is what amazed me, a huge gain over last time!! I knew we wouldn't gain too much HP b/c it was significantly warmer then when dyno'd with the turbo install (mid Feb). so a few HP gain is ok with me! :) ****ing thing squats tough on that dyno...

AlterEvo 06-02-2010 12:26 PM

Updated 2 June 10. Added a bunch of new parts to the origional thread post with some pics I took at the Carlisle P&S show.

As if one fuel pump wasn't enough, added the Full Blown dual 225 pump hanger and pumps. Finally got rid of my horrid VTA bov for a APS twin-vent. Replaced the HKS upper IC piping for the JMF polished upper. Added the JMF med battery kit.

Check out the pics and let me know what ya'll think of the new set up.

Hopefully now I can start on the exterior with some subtle mods. Actually just picked up a set of IX tails so they'll be getting installed some time today.

We'll be at the OC car show, stop by!

AlterEvo 06-18-2010 04:32 PM

Finally got my DD S4 cleaned up so I snapped a couple pics.

And the Evo after I installed the IX tails...i think it's a def improvement:

http://i786.photobucket.com/albums/y...otts55/044.jpg

Polished the AC liines and put on the RalliArt fabric covers

Next I think will be wheels...as long as I can settle on a set....any suggestions??
