4" Fart Cannon...
 

My friend has a 99 eclipse non-turbo. He just bought it and went to get it inspected and he failed inspection, one of the reasons was that his exaust was rusted to hell, so he went online last night and looked for a new exaust.

Now..a 99 eclipse is definatly gonna be a car that has potential to become riced out pretty quick if you buy the wrong stuff. He came up to me today and told me he got an exaust online for $400, hes gonna send me the link today. I was like, ok, thats a decent price for a legit one, but then he told me it said you would gain 50hp. I was like waittttt, theres not much you can do to a 4 banger that will give it 50hp in one shot besides boostin, so he told me that it is a 4" exaust...now my 6 is N/A and 2.5-3" is the max that is necessary for any type of preformance unless your gonna boost. and thats on a v6. should I tell him to cancle the order? Im not familiar with that year eclipse so ****, i might be completley wrong, but a 4" diameter exaust is way over kill and will sound like a fart cannon on crack, right?

Tell him to go to a muffler shop and have a new muffler welded in.

he sounds a little confused. he probably means it has a 4" tip

Im with ken here. He should have done research before blowing 400 bucks on something in which he can not even accurately describe.

there is no wrong way... only the humorous way. let your friend make his expensive mistakes so we can all have a chuckle

tell him to sell the car and buy a camry or accord. leave modifying cars to people who actually have half a clue what they are talking about

I dunno... I cheaped out and bought a catback for my gs off ebay when mine rotted out and practically fell off the car. It was cheaper than going oem and faster than finding one in a junkyard. I really cant complain about it whatsoever. It looks alright and doesnt sound like a bucket of rice or your neighbors weed whacker. Your friend was most likely talking about the size of the exhaust tip. The piping is/should be wayyy smaller in diameter and if it isnt then well... :screwy:
