TST's "Best food of the tristate" meets

Good afernoon fellow TST'ites!

Late last season I pitched an idea to a few of the local guys here in NEPA about possibly doing a weekly food meet for all of the amazing places to get a great meal in the tri-state area. Everyone seems really excited about starting this in the spring.....so I figured I'd open this up to anyone on TST. That way we could possibly get some amazing ideas for places to eat.

On to the food! If you have any great recommendations for a Sunday lunch place to eat, post it up and we'll start discussing when we are going to start these meets and where to go. I personally have a few ideas such as Aladdin's in Reading PA.

This thread is for gauging interest atm so depending on how popular of an idea this is....we'll take it to the next level. Let me know what you think TST.

EDIT: In addition to the name....make sure to list WHERE the restaurant / establishment is located and WHAT they serve! If you don't know the exact location that is fine, but at least list the city and state so I can attempt to find it. It would also be nice to mention if it's pricey if it's an upscale place.

Oh this is such a good idea... I see so many places on that traveling show on food network.. I'm sure people on here know the best place to get a prime rib sandwich, wings, sushi etc...

Exactly. I want to try some new foods this year....sushi is high up on my list. I've never really had any good sushi. Best hibachi I ever had was at Shiro's up here in the poconos.

As for the prime rib, there is an AMAZING place in NNJ....a little shack in the middle of nowhere. I'll have to see if I can remember where I found it.

i'd love to see something like this for the outdoor type of fooderies, like Dilly's in bucks county and hot dog johnny's. these types of places will be cheap eats, and are usually amazing. that way people can spend time and gas driving and enjoying the roads, eat cheap and eat well, then head back.

Nifty Fifty would be cool.

This would be great

very cool idea... maybe make a list of different kinds of food and then try to see what the best of each is in the area as far as real, genuine types of places. either cheap, medium priced, or any budget.

just blurting some ideas to start off a list if you want to do that...
thai
indian
japanese
vietnamese (pho?)
messican (like a real family owned place, not a chain... i'm looking for one of these myself)
middle eastern
ribs
burgers
bbq in general
hot dog johnny's
awesome diner
awesome ice cream place? haha i dont know...

It's funny you brought up hot dog Johnnys....that was one of the main places we were thinking of going to for the beginning of these meets! I've never been there but pass it all the time and have always wanted to go in. Last time I stopped by I didn't have any cash and they don't take credit cards. :(

The swings at that place made me laugh:

Good idea! I'll have to put some more thought into how to do this, but that'd be a great start.

There is a GREAT place in inner city reading....not sure if you have any qualms about going there. They sell amazing real mexican tacos and everyone speaks spanish haha
I'll find out the name for you next time I go to my office in Reading. It's located across from the tortilla factory in Reading....maybe a local Reading person can help me out here. Another AMAZING place in reading is lil San Juan's in Reading....it sells cuban food. Best cuban sandwiches I've ever had in my life and its a family owned business.

Nifty Fifties is a retro burger kind of joint, but their food is kind of hit or miss. But mmmmm Dilly's is awesome! Great idea, man!

1988 Olds 03-10-2010 07:24 PM

I suggest White Rose Systems in New Brunswick or it might be Highland Park NJ. It's basically like a pat's cheesesteaks of cheeseburgers. The place has been there forever. Has anyone else been there?

DriftCrash 03-10-2010 10:42 PM

I'd be down for this if you guys dont mind an old beatup truck taggin along.
